
First and foremost, what is vandalism? The definition of vandalism is to make any change such as painting, marking, repainting, and patching, damaging public property without the permission of the authorities. Vandalism is any purposeful damage to someone else’s property. For instance Painting graffiti, Dumping rubbish, setting small fires, smashing windows, Damaging buildings or other structures and scratching car paint. What are the cause and effects of vandalism? A discussion of the meaning of vandalism is followed by an examination of reasons why vandalism may be tolerated in some situations. Several different types of and reason for vandalism are described. The importance of group support is emphasized. Vandalism is caused by not only bored individuals, it also links to gangs as a way to mark their territory and is an act of delinquents. Several ways to reducing and preventing vandalism are being studied. Vandalism can affect a person’s quality of life because it damages or worse destroys something that they care and need. It can also make someone feel less safe, it can cost money to repair the damaged things, the act of vandalism can be dangerous especially if it is not controlled and it can cause people to be hurt or injured. Preventing this act from getting too far is the best option.
